Head Office environmental graphics

BAE Systems is one of the world’s leading multinational defence, security and aerospace companies. The new Australian headquarters in Canberra, required a new approach to illustrations and image treatments, environmental graphics, signage and wayfinding.

BAE Systems

Challenge

Create a new visual style, wayfinding solutions and patterns to complement the brand’s corporate ethos and represent the differing levels within the organisation. Inklab were invited to work directly with interior design team Design Inc and BAE Systems stakeholders (clients, fabricators, builders and site managers) determining the approach, placement, and style of the graphic elements within the fitout. The new space, working from a floor plan and side elevations required precision and accuracy during artwork setup and design.

Solution

The front reception received a large format photographic mural covering the organisations varied skills and demographics. We created this artwork from the extensive client photo library and liaised directly with the executives to ensure the approach met the brand values. This installation included the 3D construction of a corporate branding sign to be integrated sympathetically within the newly installed joinery of the fit-out. Selected meeting rooms were finished with large scale pattern and photo treatments, while office windows and multi-purpose areas had custom designed, abstract technical patterns applied to them.

The fitout

The office uses clean lines, blonde timbers and multiple breakout areas with green rooms and collaborative spaces creating a softer feel to the organisation’s corporate underbelly. The result is a highly polished environment for the Australian BAE Systems Headquarters, which reinforces their brand values; innovation, technology and their people.
